Silent Pool Gin

Silent Pool Gin is a luxury English Gin produced at the Silent Pool distillery founded by two friends: former ITV director Ian McCulloch and beverage expert James Shelbourne. The location of the Silent Pool Distillery could not be more typically English, the breathtaking estate of the Duke of Northumberland, nestled deep in the woods of the Surrey Hills, fed with water from the Silent Pool Spring. The history of this source goes back to the Ice Age. The property turned out to be the perfect setting for a sustainable distillery that produces handmade craft alcohol from local ingredients.

The distillery operates in a beautiful location that helps to protect and preserve it at the same time. Owners, by reducing the carbon footprint and waste, try to minimize their impact on both the local and wider environment. For this purpose, for example: they re-use all appropriate packaging, such as pallets and cardboard boxes, and all cardboard and transparent plastics are baled and recycled. In the distillery grounds, they planted a meadow with wildflowers and grown lavender to attract bees and wild animals to this place. In addition, they also contribute financially to the maintenance of the Silent Pool source, including financing the control of non-native weeds from the pool and the restoration and maintenance of natural plant life in the source and its surroundings.

The Silent Pool Distillers team has developed a unique four-step process for a sustainable approach to the production of their gins. The first step is to soak the essential plant ingredients such as Bosnian juniper berries, licorice root and cassia bark in a Holstein distiller for 24 hours, while a basket of fruit, including lime peels and oranges, hangs around the neck. Then, delicate botanicals that will not survive the distillation process, such as rose petals and elderflower, are soaked for 24 hours in neutral water to create a kind of "tea". This stripped them of their oils and aromatics without the negative aftertastes that are also added to the distillation process. Finally, the spirit is carefully passed through a multi-chambered fractionating column, resulting in a perfectly balanced spirit.

Silent Pool Gin, in addition to water from the Silent Pool spring located next to the distillery, from which it takes its name and the color of the bottle, contains 24 hand-picked botanicals, including such as: chamomile, roses, elderberry flowers, kaffir lime leaves, pear, bergamot, local honey and lavender. This results in a beautiful juniper base with a fusion of other plants that break through the palate in a very refined, subtle way, creating a beautifully balanced drink.

Violet, lavender and lime leaf give the Silent Pool Gin floral aromas, while cardamom and juniper give it a spicy character. The taste is distinguished by elderflower, chamomile and the scent of orange blossom, as well as the warming sweetness of honey and a spark of black pepper. The finish is rich in vanilla and honey notes.
