When buying gin in the 18th and 19th centuries, you would be offered a simple choice: English gin or Dutch gin. Dutch gin was known as Jenever, a juniper alcohol based on 35% ABV, while the English gin was much stronger and had many more botanical ingredients. The English gin has been given fancy names such as Young Tom and Old Tom, and names derived from distilleries or distillers such as Plymouth, Warrington and Tanqueray.
At the time, England was the largest importer of French champagne, and because bottles were expensive and gin was originally "poor man's spirit," champagne bottles were reused and refilled with gin for consumers to buy from French champagne stores.
The Old English Hammer & Son Gin is a PREMIUM gin, made according to a recipe from 1783. Thanks to the efforts of Gin Dom Poland, you can buy it in our online store and enjoy its unique taste also in Poland. This PREMIUM gin is made by distilling eleven botanicals in the oldest dedicated vessel, still used in England today. Old English Gin will be available in champagne bottles with natural cork, organic wax and silk print, just like in 1783. Hammer & Son Gin is produced ecologically and the only waste will be a bottle that can be recycled - all to protect the environment.
Through these endeavors, we are bringing to life, the way English gin was produced and distributed back then. In order to taste the cocktail for its intended purpose, you need a gin that has not changed. Hammer & Son Old English Gin is what it was: TRULY ORIGINAL.
Enjoy this historic journey into the past, Gin Dom Poland invites you.
